Biloxi

• A Mississippi Blues Trail marker on Main Street salutes the African- American clubs that flourished there during and after World War II. Casinos and the Gulf Coast Blues and Heritage Festival lead today's music scene.

Clarksdale

• Visit the Delta Blues Museum, which traces this unique musical style and houses memorabilia of such music greats as Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and B.B. King.

• In the evening, enjoy dinner at Madidi restaurant followed by an exciting night at Ground Zero Blues Club, both co-owned by actor Morgan Freeman.

• Tour the grounds of historic Hopson Plantation.

Cleveland

• Visit the Delta State University Archives, which include occasional Smithsonian

exhibits, historical displays and changing exhibits on the Delta.

• Take the Historic Blues Driving Tour, a self-guided tour of sites important to blues music.

• Dockery Plantation accounts for the region’s importance in the blues culture. It was base for a group of musicians, including the blues pioneer Charley Patton, Son House, Robert Johnson and Howlin’ Wolf.

Greenville

• Nelson Street juke joints – clubs and restaurants with blues heritage and live music – are clustered near each other.

• Blues bars along Walnut Street feature such blues artists as local favorite John Horton, plus hip-hop and live rock bands every weekend, along with drinks and fabulous dining. There’s a monthly block party when weather permits.

• Eugene Powell first recorded on the Bluebird label in 1936 under the name “Sonny Boy Nelson.” He was a good friend of fellow bluesman Sam Chatmon. He died November 4, 1998, and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in nearby Metcalfe.
